Consciousness is a highly fascinating phenomenon and the target of much activity, both in and outside of science. This wiki is dedicated to scientific projects only and furthermore has a focus on mathematical approaches.

We would like to encourage everyone with an account to contribute. Don't worry if some input is preliminary or tentative. This is a community project, and others might just pick things up where you have left them. If in doubt about whether to post something due to quality concerns, we recommend posting.

Here are a few general guidelines until we find the time to provide policies:

* We think it is important to separate novel research from the canon of (more or less) accepted knowledges. So if you want to summarize your research, please create a dedicated page.

* You're invited to cross-link your research on other articles. But please avoid advertising your research on topics that are only indirectly connected.

* Before making a change to an entry, check the "Discussion" page of the entry to see whether something relevant has been said there (link at the top of the page). Also, if you thin something should be changed but you don't have the time to do so, leave a quick note on the respective discussion page.

* Please provide a brief summary when you make and edits of an existing page (in the corresponding field just above the submit button).

Welcome! This is an experiment, shared notepad on mathematical topics in the scientific study of consciousness.

Much like our idol, the nLab, the ideas is that this wiki offers a space for us to share notes, thoughts, definitions and ideas. It is dedicated primarily to formal/mathematical topics in the scientific study of consciousness, but topics from philosophy, neuroscience and other disciplines are very welcome as well.

For the time being, we'll keep this wiki private. If this experiment works and if the content here seems to be of interest to the general public, we can think about whether to make this wiki publicly readable, but before any such step is taken we'd be talking to all users and make sure they can delete content they do not want to be publicly accessible. In any case, for now, it's private.

Goals

This wiki's overall goal is to catalyse exchange between researchers who are working on mathematical approaches in the scientific study of consciousness, and to help make good science possible. The hope is that it can be both a resource for information concerning formal approaches, but also a place where ideas can be exchanged. It's basically just a big community notebook.

Here are a few examples of the kind of posts that are very welcome:

  • Posts on concepts that are used in the scientific study of consciousness, which summarize parts of the literature, collect various conceptions or say something on how this could best be formalized.
  • Posts which review the essential formal structure of existing theories of consciousness.
  • Posts which outline research projects that are being carried out.

On the long run, we hope this helps to establish a more unique convention on how to name things in mathematical research that is related to the scientific study of consciousness.
