Several ways to understand this term exist.

Meaning from phenomenology

[Explain]

Simple term for it could be "pure subjective experience" (used e.g. in Metzinger 1995; add reference).

Chalmers' definition

Chalmers defines phenomenal consciousness to refer to those [parts or states?] of consciousness which do not have a function and which do not have a structure. Here, 'to have a function' is to have a causal role in the production of behaviour. The term 'structure' is used in a spatio-temporal sense.
